Ulster Blitz Championship 2023
Thursday 28th December 2023 from 10am to 5pm
The Ulster chess Union is pleased to announce that the 2023 Ulster Blitz Championship will happen on the 28th December 2023 at Greenisland FC Chess for the second year running.
Last year saw 50 people play across 18 rounds throughout the day. It was fun, fast and competitive. Robert Wright was crowned Champion, but he was closely chased by Liam Ferris and Ross Du Berry.
Will we have a repeat performance this year?
Blitz chess has continued to explode in ulster in the last year with Bangor, Lisburn and Greenisland leading the way. The work of the Children’s Chess in Methody College is providing more and more competitors.
There are already 7 players entered. Excitement is building.
This is a really fun and competitive event every Christmas. It is open to all abilities and there will be prizes at Overall Champion, Intermediate and Junior Levels. With 18 rounds, there will be something for everyone to play for.
With an abundance of free parking, a nearby train station and local shops Greenisland and the Ulster Blitz is a perfect way to shake of the post Christmas blues.

There are 50 places available to be allocated on a first come first serviced basis, after that a waiting list will be started.
Entry fees will go towards the UCU, Greenisland FC and prizes on the day.

GFC Chess Club is organising the FIDE Ulster Blitz Blitz Tournament for any players interested in being involved. Numbers are limited so please contact Chris Dorrian at the details below. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
Check-in will be from 9:30am – 9:50am
Pairing will be made at 9:50am
Clocks will start at 10am (THERE IS NO DEFAULT, CLOCKS WILL RUN TILL EXPIRY)
Round 1 - 9: 10am – 12:45pm
Round 10 - 18: 1:45pm – 4:30pm
Prizes at 5pm
Waiting list will operate once places are filled. There are 50 places and there was a waiting list last year.
Cost £12 (£15 for late entry)
