Newry Chess Festival : 27-29 May

2 events for the Newry Chess Festival over the weekend of Friday 27th to Sunday 29th May
The Ulster Chess Union was delighted to hear from Newry Chess Club in announcing the below two events for the Newry Chess Festival taking place the last weekend of May, 27-29.
First event: FIDE RATED U1800 Newry Classic  at 60+0
4 rounds, one on Friday night (7:30pm to 9:30pm) and three on Saturday (10:30am to 12:30pm, 1:15-3:15pm and 3:30-5:30pm).
Entry fee £16
Free entry for 2nd, 3rd or 4th players from the same family.
Half point travelling bye available for the Friday night or Saturday morning.
There will be nine trophies/cups/shields up for grabs at the classic (top 3 + Intermediate 1st/2nd/3rd and Junior 1st/2nd/3rd).
Tie-breaks will be determined by Swiss Master 5.7 Build 8 in the following order: Median Buchholz, Buchholz, Progressive
The club will initially hold 10 places for locals in the Newry/Armagh area and 8 open to anyone else willing to travel to the event.
The event is limited to 18 places and the tournament will run as an open format.

Second event: FIDE RATED Newry Blitz Championship at 10+0
12 rounds on Sunday, six before lunch, six after. Start time: 11am. Lunch break 1:15-2:15pm. End time 4:45pm.
Entry fee: £12
Free entry for 2nd, 3rd or 4th players from the same family.
Six trophies available to win at the blitz (1st, 2nd, 3rd, Grading Award, Junior Grading Award and Best Newcomer).
Tie-breaks will be determined by Swiss Master 5.7 Build 8 in the following order: Median Buchholz, Buchholz, Progressive
The club will initially hold 10 places for locals in the Newry/Armagh area and 8 open to anyone else willing to travel to the event.
The event is limited to 18 places and the tournament will run as an open format.
