With the Bangor Chess Club premises unavailable for use during September and October, the Bangor Classic will continue for 4 more weeks outdoors at the picnic tables at Groomsport Harbour (in-between the main street and Cockle Row cottages, opposite Spar shop) at 9:30am to 1:30pm on the following 4 Saturdays, weather permitting:

We are limited to 12 players able to attend at once due to the number of tables available, therefore two sessions will run each day, 9:30am to 11:30am and then 11:30am to 1:30pm.

The event is UCU rated. The next rating list will be published at the beginning of October 2021.

There will be 7 engraved trophies awarded at the final week of the tournament. Entry fees cover the cost of trophies, hand sanitisers and the purchase of some new digital clocks.

Places fill up very quickly so players need to book in advance to secure a spot. Check webpage to see the list of players registered for the upcoming week. It is 1 hour each on the clock, with players repaired with new opponents once their game finishes.

Due to extremely high levels of daily infections of Covid-19 in NI, unvaccinated players are required to wear a face covering while seated at the chess board. For full tournament details please visit:
