On Sunday 9th October, 34 chess players took part in the Newry Autumn Rapid, held across two rooms at the Sticky Fingers Arts Centre.

Played over 10 rounds with a time control of 15+0, the event allowed many more players the opportunity to play enough games to earn a FIDE rating. There were two sections, 22 in the senior (rated by FIDE, the International Chess Federation) and 12 in the junior (rated by the UCU, the Ulster Chess Union).

The tournament was organised by Brendan Jamison, the 4th of 10 events that form the FIDE-rated NI Rapid Grand Prix. Event 5 will be held at the Duncairn Arts Centre in North Belfast on 22nd October, event 6 at Greenisland FC on 30th October and event 7 at Omagh on 3rd December.
