City of Bangor Congress Report
Congratulations to the 12 prize-winners at the City of Bangor Congress, held on Saturday 3rd September. 36 players competed across two sections, 24 in the FIDE-rated Congress and 12 in the UCU-rated Junior Congress (0-1100 rating).
This was event 1 of 10 in the NI FIDE-rated Rapid Grand Prix. Event 2 will be held in Downpatrick on Saturday 17th September, followed by Strand Chess Club in East Belfast on Friday 23rd September and then Newry on Sunday 9th October.

The next competition at Groomsport is the FIDE-rated Bangor Blitz Championship on Thursday 15th September from 7:30pm to 10pm (school children usually leave earlier at 9pm or 9:30pm so they will play 4 or 5 rounds but are always welcome to stay to the very end).
The tournament will run over 6 rounds with each player having 10 minutes each to complete all their moves.
It is one open section. There are 7 trophies/cups/shields up for grabs. If you don’t already have a FIDE ID, you will need to email through your DOB. £8 entry fee, payable in advance.
