Club Reps Meeting

Following a meeting of Club Representatives, a number of decisions were made in respect of the Belfast & District League 2010-11

On Tuesday 22nd February 2011, Club Representatives met to discuss the administration of the Belfast & District League. This group had assumed responsibility for management of the League following the resignation of the League Controller and subsequent discussions at a Special General Meeting (October 2010) of the Ulster Chess Union.

Present at the meeting were: Damien Cunningham (Ballynafeigh), Kevin Agnew (Bangor), Stewart McConaghy (Bombardier), John Cairns (Fisherwick), Jonathon Brown (Lagan). Gareth Annesley (RVH) was absent.

The meeting agreed the following:

  1. Squad Lists:  All teams must provide squad lists to the UCU within 7 days of this meeting. Any team failing to do so by March 2nd 2011 will have 5 points deducted from their current League score (to be carried over into Part 2 of the League).
  2. Floating Players: For the future and the second half of the League, starting in the week commencing March 7th, no player with a rating over 1350 may play for more than one team within the competition. Junior players are permitted to float and this permission is granted solely on a players rating (i.e. less than 1350) and not age.
  3. Dual Representation in a Division: The final fixtures in any Division where a club is represented by two teams may not include a match between those two teams.
  4. Contacts: All teams must supply two working phone numbers, preferably mobile numbers, and two working email addresses belonging to team members. These should be provided before the start of Part 2 of the League i.e. before 7th March.
  5. Reporting Results: From this date forward, match results should be reported to the UCU Results Service within 3 days of play. Teams failing to report results promptly will lose one point from their team's score; one point will be deducted for each offence.
  6. Reporting ResultsTeams that failed to produce results for the first half of season will not be deducted League points; instead, their players' ratings will remain unpublished until either the next UCU AGM or missing results are provided to the UCU - which ever comes first.
  7. Uncontested Matches: In matches where neither team contest lower board games, these games will be valued as a non-scores for both teams. Any such instances occurring in Part 1 of the League will be revalued and overall match scores adjusted accordingly.

The reporting of Squad Lists (item 1), Contacts (item 4) and Match Reports (items 5 & 6) should be made to either league@ulsterchess.org or results@ulsterchess.org

Adjustments to League scores for Part 1 incorporating penalties arising from these decisions have not been made as yet (23/02/11)

These clarifications and decisions are hereby incorporated into the League Rules with immediate effect.

Further, according to the current standings in Part 1 of the League, the Divisional competition in Part 2 will be organised as follows:

  • Division 1: Fisherwick, RVH Hawks, Lagan, Ballynafeigh A
  • Division 2: Malone, Bangor Wannabees, Bombardier, Ballynafeigh B
  • Division 3: RVH Hendersons, Bangor Grromsport, RVH Ravens

Fixtures will begin in the week commencing 7th March; see the Fixtures Lists for details.
