The 2025 Summer tournament ends with a fun tournament and award ceremony

Weds 24th September 2025 saw 24 players gather to celebrate the end of the UCU Summer Tournament. Who won? we have the final standings. The end of the chess season. The leagues start in October - we wish all teams/players well for the UCU league.

The evening started with our fun time-handicap tournament. Players clock times depended on the difference of the ratings of the two players.

ie : if the difference was in the range 620 to 779 then the times are set to 3mins v 17mins. If they are within 59 rating points then we have 10mins v 10mins. David Seaby a regular at previous Summer Tournaments setup the scale of differences - many thanks to David. We run 5 rounds and to help with the smooth running I had clocks setup to various pre-defined differences. The draw included the players ratings - I used the classical UCU ratings.

Then we had the award ceremony for the weeks of the Summer Tournament - we had some 45 players and 218 games ( some FIDE rated) over 20 weeks - some brillant chess. Thanks to all the players. Thanks to the brilliant venue and staff of NICS Pavilion.

The standings. I split the group into 3 sections. Each week I try to pair people in similar groups - this isnt always possible so apologies to anyone who played up.

The rules of prizes is that we give the 2 players with the highest % overall 1st and 2nd ( players must have played 10 games to qualify ). Then out of the remaining players we take the top 2 of each section and they are 1st and 2nd of the section. Anyone in any section can be overall Winner and 2nd - in the past we have had winners from section 2 and 3. We have 3 sections. All the 8 winners were given as part of their prizes a Simultaneous ticket for this seasons UCU Simultaneous.
