FIDE events over Bank Holiday weekend for St. Patrick’s Day
Massive thanks to Downpatrick Chess Club for the warm welcome on Saturday 16th March at the 8 round FIDE rapid, such an amazing team of Mark Doxey and Dermot Maguire, helping to spread chess all across this ancient town with such passion and enthusiasm! 40 players and 12 awards. The Grand Room at Denvir’s Hotel was buzzing with excitement, with all ages, from lots of primary school children, teenagers, adults and pensioners. Also a big thanks to Bangor Chess Club for lending the chess clocks to make everything flow smoothly over the boards! Please see photo with all the prize-winners. Our overall champion was Club Master Danny Roberts with an overall score of 7.5/8.
Also, a massive thanks to Carson McNab for securing a wonderful venue in Newtownards for the blitz on Monday 18th March at the Minor Hall of the 1st Ards Presbyterian Church. 13 year old Max McCroskery was crowned champion. Everyone had a ball as they battled across 10 rounds of 7+0! Roll on our next FIDE event at Groomsport this Thursday, event 14 of 15 in the NI Rapid Grand Prix. 6 rounds of 12+0. Still a couple of places left for anyone else looking to play…
