The Final Childrens Chess decides Stormont Players.
Chess encourages the mind to look for alternatives. Solutions within a set of rules. In a World of fast digital games and information we still need to make decisions. Chess provides a controlled world where decisions can lead to loss or win and you are responsible for your decisions. A game of slow focused thought.
The month being the last for the Stormont Grandprix points saw interest in the current standings and some determined players.
With sixteen Secondary and seventeen Primary players we had an afternoon of chess excellence and friendly banter.
Top Ulster player Gareth Annesley provided a session of formal training with Gareth talking through an excellent example position teaching us some methods of analysis. This was followed with a couple of sessions between rounds on solving problems. Many thanks to Gareth.
The Puzzle solving had a new face in the primary section with Li Changyang leaping ahead of the pack with 18 correct solutions a brilliant result.
In the Secondary Chess competition Eoin McCorkindale for the second time won with full points - undefeated and from only two visits to the competition gains a place at the Stormont awards. With Andrew Todd coming a close second. Both new players to this years series of tournaments.
Peter Todd (younger brother of Andrew) dominated the primary section winning it without loss for I believe the fourth successive month. Coming second were Calvin Patterson (only P2) and Admira Kecskemti (P3) both on 4 points.
