Novel feature for upcoming Fisherwick Tournament

It will be a swiss tournament of 6 Rounds on consecutive Monday evenings, 1.25 hours on each clock and commencing at 7.45pm.

A novel feature will be the assimilation of junior members into the tournament. They will play 30 minutes on each clock. Those participating in the tournamant will need to be prepared to play juniors at this rate of play.

Total prize-fund is expected to be £100 + with a minimum first prize of £60 for the overall winner. The final prize-fund will be determined by entry fees.

Entry fee for non-club members is £10.

Neil Green will be the Controller.

Chess at the Ulster Museum

The Ulster Museum re-opens after a major refurbishment on Thursday 22^nd October 2009. Exactly a month later on Sunday 22^nd November the Ulster Chess Union is organising a rapidplay tournament in the Museum’s Belfast Room.

The Ulster Museum is situated in the Botanic Gardens in the University area and should prove an excellent venue, both in terms of the playing room itself and the general location, with its many local eating establishments.

The tournament will be an open six-round Swiss suitable for players of all range of abilities.

First ever Ulster Blitz Championship

Time Control will be 3 and 2. This means that each player will have 3 minutes for all their moves PLUS a 2 second increment for every move made.

During each round the UCU aim to record digital video of the top board from each section for upload to YouTube. Your blitz games have the potential to be viewed by players worldwide. So come on down to the Belfast Boat Club on 27th December and show the world what you can do! It promises to be a fun day of chess for all.
