New format for 2010 Ulster Championships

The Ulster Championships are once again being held in the Europa Hotel, Belfast but with a new format.

The increase in numbers since the event moved to the Europa Hotel in 2007 means that it is now possible to hold the three Championships - Senior, Intermediate and Junior - as separate events at the same time over the August Bank Holiday Weekend. Last year 38 competed and the Ulster Chess Union is hoping that at least that many enter again this year.

Organisers expect that each section will have approximately 12 to 16 players competing over 6 rounds. The advantage is that players will now only compete against players of their own standard and make for a fairer test.

The Championships are open to players born or resident in Northern Ireland.
