The QUB Blitz is back for Wednesday 8th October, this time in the Bunatee Bar. On this occasion it's as part of a double-header, as QUB Chess combines the popular blitz format with the 2008 Freshers' Championship.

Ulster Senior, Intermediate & Junior Championships (Europa Hotel, Belfast , from 2008-08-23 10:00 to 2008-08-25 21:00) — by David McAlister

The 2008 Ulster Chess Championships are open to ALL Ulster players. The competition incorporates in a single event the Ulster Senior, Intermediate and Junior Championships. The six-round Swiss is being held at the Europa Hotel, Belfast over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

On the evening of Monday 28th July, QUB Chess will host a blitz competition in Bar Sub of the Students' Union basement. There's none of your fancy "time/piece handicaps" - it's just an old-styled blitz shoot out with plenty student-priced liquor available from the bar. The competition is open to all players.

8 round tournament on Saturday 28th June 2008. Amount of time players receive for each individual game depending on their respective ratings.

Any young person attending a Secondary or Primary School may compete in this event. Closing date for entries is 9th May. This competition is officially sanctioned by the Ulster Chess Union.

The principal objective of Friends of Northern Ireland Chess (FoNIC) is to provide financial support to players representing the Ulster Chess Union outside Northern Ireland in both individual and team events.
