Schools Chess
Up one level
Young players are the future of the Ulster Union and we have a number of initiaives throughout the province to stimulate chess in schools offering teachers training and organising local tournaments.
Ulster has a strong tradition of chess in schools especially through the Ulster Schools Chess Council.
Directory of school activity at the various levels

It is widely recognised that children benefit, both socially and academically, enormously from playing chess. The Union facilitates primary schools in promoting chess among their pupils; mostly by providing support for teachers and organising tournaments.

Several of the provinces larger schools maintain strong (both numerically and ability) chess clubs. Much of this activity including inter-school matches and championships is administrered through the Ulster Schools Council.

The Queens University Chess Club are planning a major comeback in the 2006/7 competition season. Hopefully their success will encourge other Colleges to follow their example.
